TM Series New Holland tractor

The 6 cylinder model groomers offer unparalleled torque thanks to a very large c.i.d. diesel engine.  There are 4 models, from 100 pto hp to 135 pto hp.  The model TM130 is most commonly used for trail grooming.  Model for model, the competition can’t come close to matching the torque put out by these powerplants.  The deluxe full powershift transmission provides full control over traction versus engine rpm.  A state of the art super comfort cab promotes extended grooming hours with less stress and fatigue.  Superior visibility also contributes to operator comfort.  Access to all maintenance areas is second to none, encouraging regular inspection, for increased peace of mind.

Here are a few main features that elevate our New Holland Sur-TracTM groomers above the competition:

The 6 cylinder New Holland TS  groomers have much more tractive power than conventional hydrostatic units of up to 180hp.  How is this possible?  By physical design, hydrostatic pumps and motors are very inefficient and require much more power to operate.  As well, a  hydraulically driven system has a built in pressure relief point, and once this threshold is attained, any extra input power is simply “blown by” the system.  A New Holland farm tractor on the other hand, was conceived and has evolved over the years with the main objective of pulling heavy draft loads  and providing mechanical longevity under extreme conditions.  The engine output goes directly to the transmission via a series of multiple disc oil bath clutch packs.  There is no power wasted in this direct transfer.  From the transmission, power is directly transferred to the differential, then the rear axles, which directly drive the tracks.

When comparing to conventional synchro-shift tractor groomers, a powershift transmission allows for more productive "speed matching" to trail conditions.  If a change in speed is required (cornering, hill climbing, road/bridge crossing, going through deep drifts, meeting sleds, etc.), all the operator does is push the “downshift button” to slow, and the “upshift button” to speed up.  It’s as simple as that.  The engine rpm is never touched so maximum power is always available.  The end result is faster grooming with less fuel consumption.

More importantly, the ability to shift gears on the fly, under full load without clutching or uncoupling the engine/transmission allows for better control of track slippage when climbing or in deep snow conditions.  The key to traction is not to allow the tracks to “break away” from the trail surface (commonly know as “spinning-out”).  Too high of a gear and the tractor stalls...  Too low of a gear and the tractor “overpowers” thus spinning-out the tracks.  With a powershift transmission the operator can compensate for varying tractive conditions with a push of a button.

There is no "dry organic" clutch disc to burn out.  The New Holland powershift uses multiple disc wet cerametallic clutch packs for long life.  It is impossible to "grind the gears" when powershifting.  Inexperienced operators can concentrate on learning and perfecting the art of grooming, without having to worry about damaging the tractor.  There is even a low oil shutdown function to protect all hydraulic components.

The New Holland powershift transmission has been on the market in it’s current form since 1991.  There are over 200 of our New Holland Sur-TracTM groomers on the trails with this transmission, operating trouble-free and very well liked by all operators.

The "A", "B", and "C" ranges are readily visible and feature six separate lights indicating each powershift speed within a given range.  An audible "beep" and flashing indicator light also remind you when a range change is required.

Powershift buttons are located side-by-side and control upshifts (1), and downshifts (2).  The range button (3), is also close at hand for simple, finger tip control of range changes.

When range shifts are required under heavy load, the groomer will momentarily stop as the transmission shifts.  The automatically-modulated clutch quickly provides a smooth restart.  During high-speed transport, the tractor's momentum "rolls" through range changes for a smooth, comfortable ride.
